Welcome to The 6 on James

When Kevin and I moved to Angola, Marty Hayward at 6 Autumns was one of the first people we met. Correction... we actually met her before we moved. 6 Autumns was our long-distance relationship meeting point; him from Lansing and me from Fort Wayne.

Marty and I quickly became friends and she helped us fall in love with Angola.  Our partnership in crime and bestie status officially started on January 16, 2015. Since our birthdays are only 1 day apart, it seemed only appropriate to have a party entitled, The Birthday for B!tche$.  Since then, we've laughed, cried, comforted, created, grown together, played, and probably annoyed Kevin a ridiculous amount of times.

Since buying Happy Acres, she has been a huge part in not only promoting us, but also in keeping me sane through all the chaos of our first year of campground ownership. 

She makes all music, catered meals, tastings, and alcohol (Whiskey Wagon) at the campground possible. She also helped with the vision and execution of the camp store. And, she makes a mean Old-Fashioned. 

This spring, she made a huge decision to move & rebrand her restaurant. Welcome to The 6 on James. Her new location (formally Mad Anthony's) is still the largest bourbon bar around here (and maybe anywhere), but now it has a dark, steam-punk, speakeasy feel that makes you want to sit back, relax, and sip a nice glass of bourbon.

The 6 on James has over 1200 different bourbons! That doesn't count whiskey (because all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon).  And doesn't count all the copious amounts of vodka, gin, rum, tequila, etc, etc, etc. If you haven't witnessed her collection, I highly recommend it.

When we first met, I asked her why she opened a restaurant.  She said, "I want to own all the whiskey and make soup." Mission accomplished!
